Videos on Smart Grids

  • Speaker: James A. Kelly is vice president of Engineering and Technical Services in the Transmission and Distribution business unit of Southern California Edison (SCE). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0P8Q4bKIc4
  • Group discussion: In this National Science Foundation video, Jerry Beilinson, deputy editor of Popular Mechanics, discusses the future of electrical grids and the implications they have for the safety of the future. In 1940, 10 percent of energy consumption in America was used to produce electricity. That number has now increased to 40 percent. As Americans become increasingly dependent on electricity, what is being done to make the nation's electrical grid more resilient and nimble? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzFGLCRMdCU&feature=related

Terrorism and Obfuscation

Terrorism and obfuscation, it seems the terrorists are using this old tool to hide the information very effectively to terrorize the world. Since couple of days, reading and watching news regarding the terror attacks on the Sri Lankan Cricket team in one of the vivacious city of Pakistan, Lahore, I came across that security officials received an anonymous call, advising that they should take an alternate itinerary to the stadium as there lies a menace on the original route. Quite surprisingly, the security officials followed the advice from the anonymous caller (in fact an ally of terrorists) without any effort of verification.

However, it’s the way most human would have behaved and they would have done the same as security official did. I am of this view because if an overwhelming responsibility lies on shoulders and one is too concern about it, he/she may take such action. It could also be due to the believing (or trusting) nature of the people in Pakistan that they would have taken such an action. In fact this kind of attitude lies overall third world countries. I would not go into human nature of the people at this time, however, this terrifying event signifies another example of how obfuscation techniques can be used to deceive people, unfortunately, these peoples were policemen who were sincerely performing their duties and were concerned about the safety of the Sri Lankan Cricket team, who were the guests of the whole nation. After this terrifying event, the whole nation is in state of mourn.

I firmly believe that after fright their lies a hope. The terrorists might not believe or have forgotten this truth of nature but they can’t stop us from living a peaceful life. From this incident, I believe that the security officials in Pakistan will grow stronger and will use the obfuscation techniques to deceive the terrorists in the future and safeguard the safety of the guests of the people of Pakistan. Pakistan will rise stronger and stronger and will arrange sporting events in the future and will always feel nobility to serve the guests.

Script Writing

How to write script? I am not talking about the script writing for a movie, instead script writing for the scientific stuff. For scientific guy, it seems to be a very challenging task. Believe me I tried and found that there is a strong mutual connection between a movie script writing and script writing for the scientific stuff. It is really beneficial if one wants to introduce his scientific stuff to a layman.
I was wondering whether the marketing professionals take courses on the script writing. If not, then, I think they should.
